Today we used these again but more in an individual practice setting - students have a lot on their plate in Math class from now until Christmas break - it's exciting but can also be overwhelming.
Happy Wednesday!

We were so busy yesterday that I forgot to document the evidence! Here is one class hard at work figuring out how to multiply decimals using their base ten blocks. Eventually, these will not be needed but it sure does give an understanding of place value and there we so many AH-HA moments it made it all worth it!

Today was a day where students really needed stamina in math class! We started out with 3 journal questions to test their comprehension with ordering decimals and converting fractions to decimals. Many students are on their way with this outcome but many still need more one on one assistance that we (Mme Killam & I) will be providing next week on extra help days Tuesday/Thursday. Overall the four classes today worked hard and asked many amazing questions - exactly what we want the classes to be like!
Happy Weekend! Mme Roach Today, we channeled all of the sugar-fueled energy of last night into a Math period filled with games and activities to review equivalent fractions and converting fractions and decimals. Students were engaged, asked some great questions, and had fun! Today's centres included: Equivalent Fraction Bingo, Fraction-Decimal Go Fish, and an "I have/Who has" loop. Students tried to beat the best time to complete the loop, and the winning group had a time of 1 minute and 33 seconds in the last class of the day. Congratulations!
Extra-help was offered today at lunch. Thank you to the students who came and asked some great questions. That demonstrates great initiative for your learning! Tomorrow, students will show Mme Roach what they know on ordering fractions and decimals. If students want to practice equivalent fractions and comparing fractions, the following links are to some great online math manipulatives to help do just that. http://nlvm.usu.edu/en/nav/frames_asid_105_g_3_t_1.html?from=topic_t_1.html http://nlvm.usu.edu/en/nav/frames_asid_105_g_3_t_1.html?from=topic_t_1.html Mme Killam |
