On Wednesday we work on mental math strategies so here is an example of today's - try quizzing your children and see what they can teach you! Have a great evening and enjoy a few treats too!

After introducing different activities yesterday, it was fairly common that students needed some revision on equivalent fractions. We spent today working in our fraction/decimal books and exploring equivalent fractions (a grade 5 & 6 outcome). Many students voiced a better understanding at the end of the period - success! I also offer extra help every Tuesday at second half of lunch for any students who feel as though they need to come in.
Happy Tuesday! Mme Roach Today we practiced recognizing fractions and decimals, working with equivalent fractions, AND ordering fractions and decimals. We used 6 mini stations to provide a preview of what they will see later on this week with Madame Killam. This is such a large part of our curriculum it is so great to make it fun at the same time! Students have been working hard and most importantly, asking lots of questions!
Mme Roach Today we had great classes where students learned how to convert fractions to decimals and back! We practiced ordering decimals and fractions again as well as a fraction "ONE" game where students had to work on making ONE whole. This is going to be a great couple of weeks working hard with fractions and decimals!
Happy Weekend! Mme Roach Today was centres day so it was jam-packed with math activities. We reviewed how students will be assessed for Learning Habits in Math, and completed a mini-lesson on decimal numbers when the denominator of the fraction is 9 (1/9 = 0.1111..., 2/9 = 0.222..., etc.). Students completed three centres today: a mental math station focusing on equivalent fractions and money questions as well as an activity station and a practice station focusing on decimal and fraction conversion. Groups had some wonderful math questions and discussions and students worked well together, helping each other learn and make connections! Great teamwork!
Students should continue to review their benchmark fractions and their decimals in preparation for upcoming work in decimals and fractions. Until next Thursday! Mme Killam Today students worked really well in creating fraction and decimal books that they will be using over the next few weeks. Students engaged in great conversation and were able to chat about terminating vs. repeating decimals. Tomorrow is station day with Mme Killam and students will be doing so many amazing activities to practice relating the fractions to the like decimals and vice versa.
Happy Wednesday! Mme Roach Today we dove right into decimals and reviewed the proper vocabulary in French for tenth, hundredths, and thousandths. Students reviewed putting decimals in decreasing and increasing order as well as sorted them int groups. We ended with a physical activity and are looking forward to creating our decimal/fraction books tomorrow!
Mme Roach Bonjour! We had a great Monday with students finishing up tests from Friday and starting to explore the world of decimals! Here is an example of a review sheet some students completed today:
Below you can find the website we used today in class to review our divisibility rules. Please remember that it is each student's responsibility to ask for extra help (offered at lunch) and to prepare for their tests as needed. I look forward to collecting some more information tomorrow and to see how far we've come in 7 weeks. We had great conversations together today!
